Quilts 1700-2010

Ok I must have done something worng last time as I had written a little account about my visit to the V&A on Good Friday.
I wasnt sure whether to go to the exhibition - Quilts 1700-2010 - as I thought it could ruin my street cred!! hahahahaha like I ever had any!
The weather was awful on Friday and the tube packed but it was so worth it! Most of the quilts were completed by women and made a huge contribution to social history. There was even a quilt made in the Changee Japanese concentration camp all with the quilters names embroiderd on - that was strange and haunting. Although mostly made by women there was a really interesting display made by the inmates of Wandsworth Prison. The exhibit that really struck me was by Tracey Emin - awesome.
I am so glad I went - was it inspirational? oh yes - the texturising of fabric both rich silks and recylced fabrics was fabulous - watch this space!

  1. oh wow! I would love to have seen the Changee one. They featured this on Radio 4 and it sounded amazing. Quilting seems such a faff though..... Debs H
